Triveni Sangams in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh

NEWS CHARIOT : The Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, is drawing millions of devotees as the sacred 12-year event unfolds. Pilgrims are flocking to the famous Triveni Sangam, the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers. Devotees believe that bathing at this holy confluence cleanses them of sins and grants salvation, with liberation from the cycle of rebirth, known as moksha.
While Prayagraj remains the most renowned Triveni Sangam, several similar sacred confluences of rivers are also found in the Telugu states, where devotees believe bathing in these places offers spiritual blessings.
- Kandakurthi (Telangana)
- Located in the Renjal Mandal of Nizamabad district, Kandakurthi is home to a significant Triveni Sangam where the Godavari, Manjira, and Haridra rivers meet. The convergence is considered sacred by devotees, with an ancient Shiva temple built on the banks of the Godavari river.
- The Telangana government has established three bathing ghats here for pilgrims, and many devotees consider this place on par with other sacred pilgrimage sites like Kashi and Rameswaram.
- Kaleshwaram (Telangana)
- Situated in the Jayashankar Bhupalpally district, Kaleshwaram is another important Triveni Sangam where the Godavari, Pranahita, and the mythological Saraswati rivers converge. Devotees believe that bathing here grants them freedom from the cycle of rebirth.
- The Telangana government is also set to conduct Pushkaras for the Saraswati river between May 15 and 26, offering devotees an opportunity to partake in sacred rituals.
- Sangam (Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh)
- Located in the Vangara Mandal of Srikakulam district, Sangameswaram is a revered Triveni Sangam where the Nagavali, Vegavathi, and Suvarna Mukhi rivers meet. This place is considered an important pilgrimage spot, especially during festivals like Maha Shivaratri, drawing thousands of pilgrims.
- The region is also home to the Sangameswar temple, and locals consider this sacred spot on par with the Triveni Sangam in Allahabad.
- Sangameswaram (Kurnool District, Andhra Pradesh)
- Situated at the confluence of the Tungabhadra and Bhavanasi rivers in the Krishna river, the Sangameswaram temple is an important spiritual site for devotees. Some also believe this place to be a confluence of seven rivers, known as Sapta Nadi Sangamam, adding to its significance.
These sacred Triveni Sangams in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are not only geographically important but are also centers of deep spiritual and religious significance for the Hindu community. Devotees travel from all over the country to take part in sacred bathing rituals, believing in the divine power that these river confluences hold.
