Massive Pilgrimage to Prayagraj’s Kumbh Mela Amid Political Criticism

NEWS CHARIOT : In Prayagraj district of Uttar Pradesh, millions of devotees are flocking to the Sangam banks to participate in the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela. Amidst the growing influx of pilgrims, opposition leaders in the state have been raising several challenges against the government’s handling of the event.
Responding to the criticism, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath addressed the concerns, highlighting the global attention the Maha Kumbh Mela is drawing and how millions of people are arriving at the event. He added that many pilgrims are also visiting other sacred cities like Prayagraj, Kashi, and Ayodhya during the festivities.
Speaking at the ‘Dialogue with Young Industrialists’ event, CM Yogi pointed out that while some were critical of the event, the Kumbh Mela is generating substantial revenue for the state. He emphasized that both the central and state governments are jointly investing Rs 7,500 crore for the successful organization of the Maha Kumbh Mela, with projections indicating over Rs 3 lakh crore in income for the state.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the various facilities provided at key pilgrimage locations, including Ayodhya, Prayagraj, Kashi, Chitrakoot, Gorakhpur, and Naimisharanya, in connection with the Kumbh Mela. He mentioned that Ayodhya alone has received over Rs 700 crore in donations and gifts in just one year. As of February 17, over 54 crore 31 lakh devotees had taken the sacred dip at the Kumbh Mela, with the event set to continue until February 26, coinciding with Maha Shivaratri.
The Maha Kumbh Mela remains a significant event for millions of devotees, generating both spiritual and economic impact for the region.
