First ever Life Sciences University in India to come up in Telangana-Minister Sridhar Babu

NEWS CHARIOT : At the BioAsia 2025 conference held at the HICC in Hyderabad, Minister Sridhar Babu made significant remarks regarding the state’s plans for the life sciences sector. He shared that the government would soon make a decision in the Cabinet regarding the Life Sciences Policy, which is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the future of this sector in Telangana.

In a groundbreaking announcement, Sridhar Babu revealed that Telangana will be establishing the first-ever Life Sciences University in the country. He stated that a decision on the exact location of the university would be taken soon. The Minister also highlighted a critical issue in the current education system: students graduating without the skills needed to meet industry demands. He emphasized that the government’s goal is to bridge this gap, which is why they have set up a Skill University in partnership with industries.

Sridhar Babu further mentioned that Telangana is seeing growing interest from the pharmaceutical sector, with industries showing enthusiasm to establish units in the state. However, to ensure environmental sustainability, these industries will be set up in Tier-2 cities and towns, such as Vikarabad and Zaheerabad, which have already been identified as potential sites. He also noted that while pharma industries would not be set up in Lachcherral, the government plans to focus on environmentally friendly industries for the region, as clarified by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.

Acknowledging public concerns and protests, Sridhar Babu assured that the government would consider all opinions before making decisions that would be agreeable to everyone. He also expressed his satisfaction with the fact that renowned global companies like Amgen, along with several other giants, are ready to invest Rs. 5,000 crore in the state, marking a positive development for Telangana’s economy.
