Invalid Votes Impacted MLC Election Result in karimnagar, Medak,Nizamabad, and Adilabad

NEWS CHARIOT:-The counting of votes for the karimnagar,Medak, nizamabad, and adilabad Graduate MLC election took an astonishing three days to complete, with the process starting at 6 AM on Monday and concluding at 9 PM on Wednesday. The result revealed a victory for the BJP candidate, who secured 5,106 votes, while the ruling Congress party candidate suffered a loss. However, the election witnessed a significant issue—over five times the number of invalid votes, which some believe may have affected the final outcome.
Out of the total 2,52,029 registered graduates eligible to vote, an alarming 11.38% of the votes were deemed invalid. This has raised questions, particularly given that only those with a degree or higher education were eligible to vote in the election. Many are now questioning why such a large number of educated voters failed to cast their votes correctly.
In this election, voters were expected to rank candidates in order of preference. They could either give their vote to a single candidate or rank all the candidates with numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, and so on. The crucial aspect of the voting process was that voters were required to give their first preference (number 1) to a candidate before ranking others. Failure to rank candidates properly, such as skipping the number 1 preference or using incorrect sequence numbers, resulted in the invalidation of the vote.
Additionally, some voters made fundamental mistakes, like assigning the number 1 preference to two candidates or failing to provide a number for their first preference and marking others with numbers 2, 3, and 4. Such errors led to the rejection of those votes. In some cases, voters simply ticked a box next to their preferred candidate without using any numbers, which also invalidated their vote.
In addition to these errors, several voters also added signatures and names next to their preferred candidates, showing allegiance to the person they were voting for. However, this unconventional practice caused the votes to be disqualified. Furthermore, election officials had instructed voters to use a particular color pen, but many voters chose to use their own pens, leading to additional invalidation of their ballots.
Despite being graduates, many voters appeared to lack a basic understanding of the voting process, which significantly affected the final result. These errors and confusion with the voting procedure were ultimately crucial in determining the outcome of the election, with the invalid votes playing a potentially decisive role in the defeat of the Congress candidate and the victory of the BJP’s.
This election serves as a stark reminder of the importance of voter education and the need for clear communication regarding voting procedures, even among educated individuals.
