Veteran Actress Kalyani Natarajan: From Teacher to Leading Character Artist

Originally from Tamil Nadu but raised in Mumbai, Kalyani Natarajan never planned on becoming an actress. She holds a degree in English Literature and even trained as a teacher for young children. Before stepping into films, she worked as a travel consultant. However, her passion for acting led her to pursue a career in theater, where she trained as a theater artist in Mumbai and participated in several stage productions.
Her first break came in the form of a jewelry advertisement, which eventually led to her debut in the 2013 Tamil film “Settai.” The same year, she also acted in “Gori Tere Pyaar Mein.” Though she was offered a role in the Tamil blockbuster “Thalaivaa,” unforeseen circumstances forced her to decline the opportunity.
Despite entering the industry at a later stage, Kalyani Natarajan has now become one of the most sought-after supporting actresses, especially in motherly roles. She made her Telugu debut with Balakrishna’s “Dictator” and later played Sharwanand’s mother in “Mahanubhavudu,” which earned her much recognition.
Her performances in films like “Geetha Govindam,” “Shailaja Reddy Alludu,” “Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo,” “Bheeshma,” and “Waltair Veerayya” have cemented her place in Tollywood. She has also worked in Tamil blockbusters like “Theri,” “Sarkar,” “Master,” and “Indian 2.”
Apart from movies, Kalyani Natarajan has made a name for herself in the advertising industry and has also ventured into short films. In 2017, she played a negative role in the short film “Daro Mat.”In addition, she co-founded a theater production house, “Clean Slate Creations,” in Mumbai along with her husband, Balakrishnan Natarajan.
With her dedication and versatility, Kalyani Natarajan has proved that age is no barrier to success in the film industry. Today, she is one of the busiest character artists, effortlessly balancing roles in both Telugu and Tamil cinema.
