Government to Launch ‘Sahakar Taxi’ App to Compete with Ola & Uber

NEWS CHARIOT:-The Indian government is set to introduce a new ride-hailing app, Sahakar Taxi, to counter the dominance of private players like Ola and Uber. Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced the initiative in Parliament, stating that the new app aims to provide fair earnings for drivers without deducting commission fees.

With the rising demand for personal and public transport, Ola and Uber have become essential for daily commuters. However, these companies charge significant commissions from drivers, reducing their overall income. Many drivers have voiced their concerns over this issue, prompting the government to step in with a solution.

The Sahakar Taxi app will function similarly to Ola and Uber, allowing users to book two-wheelers, taxis, and autos. However, the key difference is that the government-backed app will not charge any commission from drivers, ensuring they receive the full fare amount. This move is expected to bring financial relief to thousands of drivers relying on ride-hailing services for their livelihood.

Additionally, recent reports suggest that Ola and Uber charge different fares based on the type of mobile device used for booking. According to these findings, iPhone users have been charged more compared to Android users, leading to scrutiny by the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA). Notices have been issued to both companies regarding these allegations.

While Ola and Uber have denied any unfair pricing practices, the government’s decision to launch its own ride-hailing service poses a major challenge for these private companies. With the promise of fair pay and transparent operations, Sahakar Taxi is expected to disrupt the ride-hailing industry and provide better opportunities for drivers across the country.
