Google to Lay Off Hundreds of Employees in India Amid Global Restructuring

NEWS CHARIOT:-Google is preparing for another round of layoffs, with significant job cuts expected in its Indian offices in Bengaluru and Hyderabad. While the company has yet to officially confirm the layoffs in India, reports suggest that these terminations could begin as soon as next week. This follows the global trend of tech companies slashing jobs in response to shifting market conditions.
The upcoming layoffs are primarily targeting employees in Google’s Platforms and Devices division, which oversees products like Android, Pixel, and Chrome. With the recent restructuring in this division, hundreds of employees worldwide are expected to lose their jobs. In India, the focus seems to be on engineering roles, particularly in Bengaluru and Hyderabad, where technical positions are at risk. This move aligns with Google’s ongoing efforts to streamline its workforce and adapt to changing business priorities.
Last year, Google merged its Platforms and Devices teams, consolidating its Android and Pixel divisions. This restructuring was followed by the announcement of voluntary retirement options for employees in the U.S. at the beginning of 2025. The company has also laid off workers in its Cloud division, and employees in India have been offered buyout packages as part of the company’s downsizing efforts.
These job cuts come as Google, like other major tech firms, navigates a rapidly evolving digital economy. The growing reliance on artificial intelligence (AI) and high-priority business sectors has forced Google to reevaluate its workforce and reduce costs where necessary.
According to Layoff FYI, by early 2025, more than 28,000 tech workers across 108 companies will have lost their jobs, with industry giants such as Google, Meta, Microsoft, and Amazon making significant reductions. Microsoft, in particular, is also preparing for additional layoffs by May 2025, highlighting the ongoing trend of job cuts in the tech industry.
