TTD Tightens Security Following Terror Threats: Central Agencies Issue Warnings
NEWS CHARIOT:-In response to warnings from Central Intelligence Agencies about potential terror threats, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has significantly increased security measures. On Thursday, a large contingent of security personnel, including OCTOPUS (Organisation for Counter-Terrorist Operations), vigilance teams, and police forces, were deployed across the sacred town of Tirumala to ensure the safety of devotees.
To enhance safety protocols, TTD has been conducting mock drills in various locations, focusing on the protection of pilgrims. Security checks have been intensified, particularly at Alipiri, the main checkpoint leading to the temple, as well as along the ghat roads. Public transport services, including RTC buses, and private vehicles are being thoroughly inspected by security staff to prevent any possible threats. The heightened vigilance comes after recent intelligence alerts indicating a potential danger from terrorist activities in the region.
The increased security measures also include tighter surveillance around the Venkateswara Swamy temple, with additional personnel stationed to safeguard the temple’s sanctity and its visitors. These steps reflect TTD’s commitment to protecting both the devotees and the temple’s sacred environment.
The move follows concerns raised by Member of Parliament (MP) Gurumurthy, who recently filed a formal complaint with the central government regarding security lapses in Tirumala. He criticized the TTD administration for its mismanagement and lack of coordination, which he claimed had led to inadequate security measures. In his complaint, the MP stressed that the state government must take full responsibility for improving the safety arrangements to protect the lives of pilgrims.
Reacting to these concerns, the central government intervened and directed a review of security operations, prompting TTD to tighten its measures. MP Gurumurthy also pointed out that the security failures had not only endangered the lives of devotees but had also damaged the reputation and sanctity of the Venkateswara Swamy temple.
