Mission Shakti Boosts Women Empowerment and Menstrual Hygiene in Jangaon District

NEWS CHARIOT:-District Collector Rizwan Basha Sheikh has announced the success of several initiatives under Mission Shakti, aimed at empowering women and ensuring the safety and well-being of girls and children in the district. Speaking on Saturday, the Collector emphasized the comprehensive approach being taken to promote women’s empowerment and address key health concerns.
The District Women and Child Welfare Department has conducted 395 awareness programs across the region. These initiatives have reached over 31,247 members of District, Mandal, and Village Federations, informing them about various government schemes focused on social and economic upliftment of women.
In a major step toward promoting menstrual hygiene, the district administration has installed sanitary napkin incinerators in all government schools, colleges, and residential institutions for girls. This move addresses health hazards and environmental concerns caused by improper disposal of sanitary waste. The initiative is part of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) program run by the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW).
Twelve Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs), model schools, social welfare colleges, and ST degree colleges have been equipped with incinerators. These machines ensure that used sanitary napkins are safely burned, maintaining hygienic conditions in school environments and preventing potential health risks.
District Collector Rizwan Basha Sheikh highlighted that the incinerators were installed with special care to protect the health of girl students. He added that these efforts are part of a larger campaign to promote menstrual health, safety, nutrition, and awareness among adolescent girls.
Students have expressed their gratitude for the initiative. “Earlier, we threw used napkins in dustbins, which created a bad smell. Now, we stay healthy using this machine,” said Ch. Vinitha, a 9th class student from KGBV Lingala Ghanapuram. Another student, A. Teja Sri from KGBV Palakurthi, added, “We feel safe from health issues because of the incinerator. Thank you to the District Collector.”
Teachers and principals across the district have also extended their appreciation to the Collector for prioritizing girls’ health and school sanitation.
