AAjay Kumar Crafts Microscopic Christ the Redeemer Statue Inside Eye of a Needle to Celebrate Christmas

NEWS CHARIOT (Warangal, Dec.25) : In a stunning display of skill and precision, renowned micro-sculptor Mattewada Ajay Kumar has created an extraordinary miniature sculpture of the Christ the Redeemer statue, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, to mark the occasion of Christmas Day in Warangal.
This intricate work of art, measuring just 1.1 millimeters in height, has been carefully crafted within the eye of a needle, and can only be viewed under a microscope. The sculpture captures the likeness of the iconic 30-meter-tall statue located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, down to minute details such as the folds of Jesus’ garments and his outstretched fingers.
Ajay Kumar, a trailblazer in the field of micro-sculpture, spent 90 hours over the course of two months meticulously sculpting the piece. To achieve the desired fine detail, he used a combination of self-prepared wax, plastic powder, and even caterpillar hair to color the sculpture. The tiny artwork serves as a tribute to the Christmas spirit, with Kumar’s choice of subject matter reflecting both his artistic vision and religious reverence.
Kumar is one of only a handful of artists worldwide who specialize in creating sculptures within the eye of a needle. His dedication to the art form is unparalleled, and this latest creation adds to a remarkable portfolio of achievements. Last year, on Christmas Day, he created a microscopic version of “The Last Supper,” featuring Jesus and his twelve disciples at their final meal.
In 2018, he stunned the world by creating a microscopic golden cross sculpture of Jesus, measuring just 0.95 mm tall and 0.17 mm wide, inside the eye of a needle. This feat earned him a place in the Limca Book of Records, where he has been recognized five times for his extraordinary contributions to the world of micro-art.
Kumar’s work has garnered widespread recognition, both nationally and internationally. He has received numerous awards for his innovative sculptures and has been lauded by several prominent figures, including former Prime Ministers P.V. Narasimha Rao, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and Narendra Modi, along with chief ministers and other influential personalities. His unique approach to sculpture, coupled with his exceptional attention to detail, continues to captivate audiences around the world, setting new standards for what can be achieved in the realm of microscopic art.
