453-kg Bomb Defused in Maharashtra’s Beed District, Major Tragedy Averted Swift Action by Army Saves Hundreds of Lives

The potentially deadly device was discovered by local farmer Rajendra Dhage while digging six feet underground to repair irrigation pipes in his field. Upon finding a bomb pin, he immediately alerted the revenue officer. Tehsildar Gyandev Belhekar arrived at the spot and quickly escalated the issue to higher authorities.
Following protocol, the area was evacuated, and permission was obtained from the central government to safely handle the situation. A team of 10 bomb disposal experts from the Indian Air Force and Army arrived from Pune. Over the course of a month, they meticulously dug a seven-foot-deep trench around the bomb using a JCB machine.
Officials revealed that the bomb was 4.5 feet long and 4 feet wide, with a total weight of 453 kg. Once safely defused, it was transported to the KK Range near Ahalyanagar in a specially secured vehicle. As a precautionary measure, traffic along the transport route was halted for 30 minutes.
Experts confirmed that had the bomb exploded, it would have leveled houses over several kilometers, leading to an unimaginable loss of life and property. The explosion would have created a deafening blast and widespread tragedy.
Authorities have launched an investigation into how such a large bomb ended up buried in an agricultural field. Meanwhile, officials lauded Rajendra Dhage for his quick thinking and timely reporting, which helped prevent a major catastrophe.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and swift response in the face of potential threats.
