Allot 42 percent of reservations to BCs in local body elections-JAC

NEWSCHARIOT (Hyderabad, Nov.13) : Welcoming the Comprehensive Caste Census taken by the state government, the members of the Telangana State BC-JAC (Joint Action Committee) urged the government to provide 42 percent of reservations to the people belonging to Backward Class communities in the coming local body elections.

They met the Dedicated BC Commission Chairman B.Venkateshwar Rao in Hyderabad and submitted the representation.

Speaking on the occasion, the chairman of the BC-JAC T.Sheshu said that the members of BC-JAC after a thorough study of various castes pertaining to the Backward Class communities prepared a detailed report analysing the possibilities of allotment of 42 percent of reservations to the BC in the local body elections. The report was submitted to the chairman of the Dedicated BC commission.

He urged the commission chairman after pursuing the caste census survey that was going on in the state and identifying how backward the BC community people are politically, the commission must take a wise decision of allotment of 42 percent of reservation to BCs in the ensuing local body polls. It is related to legal process and requires amendment of the constitution, but can be made it possible, if the government takes all kinds of necessary prior steps, he opined.
