Andhra Man Poses as MLA on Shaadi.com, Cheats 26 Women in Multi-State Matrimonial Scam

NEWS CHARIOT:-In a shocking case of cyber fraud, a man from Andhra Pradesh duped 26 women across four states by impersonating a Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) on the popular matrimonial website Shaadi.com. The accused, Jogada Vamsikrishna, created a fake profile using the identity of a real MLA from Andhra Pradesh and used it to lure unsuspecting women with promises of marriage.
The scam came to light when several victims filed complaints, prompting an investigation by the Jubilee Hills police in Hyderabad. Vamsikrishna, now in custody, confessed to the crime during a five-day interrogation. He revealed that he had used the MLA’s credentials, including photos and personal details, to build a convincing profile on Shaadi.com.
Authorities say that Vamsikrishna and the MLA once studied together at a college in Kakinada, which gave him access to accurate personal information. This helped him create a highly believable fake profile, making it easier to earn the trust of women on the platform.
According to the police, Vamsikrishna promised marriage to the victims and gradually convinced them to send him money for various fabricated reasons. Over time, he collected large sums from women residing in different states, leaving them emotionally and financially devastated.
Cybercrime officials have warned the public to exercise caution when interacting on matrimonial and dating platforms. They emphasized the importance of verifying identities and avoiding financial transactions with individuals met online.
This case underscores the darker side of technology, where rising digital access and trust in online platforms are being exploited by fraudsters. The investigation is ongoing, and police are working to trace the financial trail and recover funds for the victims.
Vamsikrishna has been charged under multiple sections related to cheating and impersonation. Police have also contacted the affected MLA to ensure further security around his identity and to assist with the investigation.
