Bhadrachalam Road Railway Station Set for World-Class Upgrade Under Rs.25.41 Cr Revamp Plan

NEWS CHARIOT:-The Indian Railways has announced a major boost for passengers in Telangana with the redevelopment of 40 railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS). Among them, the historic Bhadrachalam Road Railway Station in Bhadradri Kothagudem district is undergoing a transformation to meet world-class standards.

With a total estimated investment of Rs.2,737 crore across the state, the ABSS aims to enhance passenger amenities and convert railway stations into regional growth hubs. The Bhadrachalam Road station, known for its strategic location and historical significance, is being revamped at a cost of Rs.25.41 crore.

Established during the early days of Indian Railways to facilitate coal transport from nearby mines, the station has since evolved into a key transportation hub linking Hyderabad, Vijayawada, and Warangal. It also serves as the primary entry point for lakhs of devotees visiting the renowned Sree Seetharama Chandra Swamy Temple in Bhadrachalam, making it both a logistical and spiritual landmark.

The redevelopment will include a modern façade, a 12-meter-wide foot overbridge with a lift and escalator, upgraded platforms, enhanced waiting halls, and new toilet blocks with accessible features. Green landscaping, improved traffic flow, and art showcasing local culture are also part of the initiative.

Currently categorized as a Non-Suburban Grade-4 (NSG-4) station under the Secunderabad Division, Bhadrachalam Road handles an average of 8,020 passengers daily and generates annual revenue of Rs.7.61 crore. It hosts three originating and two halting trains.

So far, over 45% of the redevelopment work has been completed, and the Ministry of Railways is targeting full completion in the coming months.

This project, launched with the support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2023 and 2024, is part of a broader national vision to modernize India’s railway infrastructure and deliver an elevated travel experience for millions.
