Bhimavaram Introduces Cooling Canopies to Beat the Heat

NEWS CHARIOT:-As the blazing summer sun makes travel unbearable, Bhimavaram has come up with an innovative solution to protect motorists and pedestrians from heatstroke. In a move reminiscent of the festive scenes described during the wedding of Sita and Rama, the entire town appears covered in canopies—not for celebration, but for survival.
Bhimavaram, often called the “Las Vegas of Andhra,” is seeing temperatures soar, making daily travel exhausting. To ease the struggle, especially for those stuck at railway gates and traffic signals, Bhimavaram Municipal Commissioner Ramachandra Reddy has introduced green mat cooling tents across the town.
These canopies have been strategically installed at key choke points, including the railway gates on Undi Road and the bypass, where vehicles are regularly halted for 5 to 25 minutes due to train crossings. With no shade and harsh sunlight, many motorists—particularly those on two-wheelers—faced extreme discomfort.
The new green mat structures provide much-needed shade, allowing people to wait in relative comfort. Locals are praising the initiative, saying the tents have become a welcome relief while waiting during signal halts in peak heat.
Officials say the cooling canopies were built at minimal cost but have had a significant impact in reducing sun exposure-related issues among daily commuters. The initiative showcases thoughtful urban planning and consideration for the well-being of the public.
Citizens have expressed their appreciation for this proactive measure, which not only brings physical comfort but also sets an example for other towns facing similar heat-related challenges.
