Chillapalli village won national award under Women friendly category

NEWS CHARIOT, (Peddapalli, Dec.9) : The Chillapalli village of Manthani mandal in Peddapalli district of the Telangana state has got rare recognition by winning the national award under Mahila Mitra Category for the year 2022-2023 National Panchaya Award announced by the central government.

Under the award, the village is going to receive Rs.75 lakhs as cash prize and will be received through the hands of the President of India Draupadi Murmu in a award distribution ceremony that will be held on December 11 under the central ministry of the Panchayat Raj department.

By considering a total nine factors, the central panchayat raj department has announced Deen Dayal Updadhyay Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar for around 27 village panchayats present across the country. In friendly panchayat category, the Chillapalli village has secured second rank and won the award.

The village sarpanch Kommu Padma speaking to Deccan Chronicle said that the women self-help groups along with the elected public representatives of the village are very active and they helped, encouraged and coordinated with each other in every developmental activity that was taken up in the village.

By participating in very meeting that was conducted by the government, the women folks and the women leaders not only followed the suggestions given by the officials but also took collective decisions in implementation of various schemes and developmental works.

By forming as many as 34 Self-Help Groups in the village, they women saved the money they earned which started from Rs.15,000 and reached to around Rs.20 lakhs in each SHG.

Later they utilized the amount by taking loans to start various other businesses like running purchasing centres, general stores, tailoring shops, beauty parlour, xerox centres, chicken centres and medical shops are growing economically. Till date any SHG group in the village had defaulted, besides regular meeting, maintenance of the records was also done properly, she added.
