CM Revanth Reddy Issues Crucial Directions Amid Soaring Power Demand in Telangana

NEWS CHARIOT:-With Telangana witnessing an unprecedented surge in electricity demand, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has issued key directives to the energy department to ensure future readiness and uninterrupted power supply across the state.
In a high-level review meeting held at his residence in Jubilee Hills, the Chief Minister, along with Deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and senior energy officials, assessed the growing power requirements driven by rapid industrial growth and urban development. Highlighting the record 9.8% year-on-year increase in demand, Revanth noted that electricity consumption had touched a peak of 17,162 megawatts this year—a historic high for the state.
Projections indicate that demand could rise to 18,138 MW by 2025-26 and reach as much as 31,808 MW by 2034-35. To tackle this, the CM instructed officials to formulate a three-year action plan aligned with Telangana’s developmental pace.
Special emphasis was laid on renewable energy sources, including floating solar projects and pumped storage systems. Revanth urged officials to fully leverage the new Clean and Green Energy Policy and attract reputed global energy firms to invest in the state. Power requirements for upcoming infrastructure such as irrigation projects, metro rail expansions, and mass transport systems should also be factored into planning, he added.
The CM also highlighted Hyderabad’s emergence as a hub for Global Capability Centers (GCCs) and data centers, announcing plans to develop a dedicated “Data City.” Officials were instructed to coordinate with HMDA to assess electricity needs for satellite townships and radial roads from the Outer Ring Road to the Regional Ring Road.
Revanth called for upgrading substations, modernizing power lines, and ensuring that future urban areas like “Future City” feature fully underground power infrastructure. Pilot projects for smart poles will be launched in areas like the Secretariat, Necklace Road, and KBR Park.
Additionally, he recommended utilizing solar power along the ORR and on urban walkways and drains within GHMC limits to support sustainable urban energy solutions.
