Cyber Crime : Indian Youth Trapped in Myanmar Under Pretext of Jobs

NEWS CHARIOT:-The illegal racket of luring unemployed youth with job offers and sending them abroad continues unabated. Intelligence agencies have identified Chinese syndicates involved in cyber crimes after trafficking hundreds of Indians to Cambodia under the guise of employment. A similar operation is now being observed in Myanmar.
Koirala Madhukar Reddy from Rangapeta village, Manakondur Mandal, Karimnagar district, reached Myanmar and soon realized the grim reality. He informed his family about the situation, prompting his father, Lakshma Reddy, to seek help from Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar. The minister was informed that many unemployed Indians were trapped by cybercrime syndicates in Myanmar’s Malady district
Following the complaint, Minister Bandi Sanjay escalated the issue to the central government, highlighting human trafficking concerns. As a result, the government successfully rescued individuals held in illegal detention. With the minister’s intervention, two flights were arranged to bring back 578 victims safely to India. Indian officials held diplomatic discussions with Myanmar authorities, who later handed over the victims to Indian authorities.
Fake agents charged unemployed individuals up to ₹3 lakh each, promising lucrative jobs abroad. However, once in Myanmar, they were reportedly sold for $3,000 per person to Chinese cybercrime gangs. These gangs forced them into fraudulent online activities, including cyber scams, by coercing them to make calls and extract financial details from innocent people. While Cambodia was previously a hub for such activities, investigations reveal that cyber fraud companies are now expanding their operations using Myanmar as a base.
Karimnagar police have registered a case against individuals involved in this human trafficking racket. Two suspects, Hitesh Arjan Someya and Rajasekhar alias Roman, have been identified, and a Lookout Circular has been issued against them, as they are believed to be in Myanmar. Intelligence Bureau (IB) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials are recording statements from the rescued victims.
This incident exposes the growing cybercrime networks and the urgent need for stricter measures to curb human trafficking under the guise of overseas employment.
