DCA Seizes ‘ORTHO-AID OIL’ for False Rheumatism Claims in Rajanna Sircilla

NEWS CHARIOT : In a significant move against misleading health product advertisements, the Drugs Control Administration (DCA) has seized ‘ORTHO-AID OIL’, an Ayurvedic medicine that falsely claimed to treat rheumatism. The operation was carried out in Rajanna Sircilla district, part of an ongoing crackdown to eliminate misleading and unproven health claims from the market.
The action was taken under the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954, which prohibits the advertisement of certain drugs making false claims about curing specific diseases or conditions. This law is in place to protect consumers from being misled by potentially harmful or ineffective products.
During the raid, led by L.R.D. Bhavani, the Drugs Inspector for Siricilla, officials discovered ‘ORTHO-AID OIL’, manufactured by Leeford Health Care Ltd in Solan, Himachal Pradesh, at a local medical store in Siricilla. The oil, which was being marketed with claims of treating rheumatism, was immediately seized by the authorities. The advertisement of any medicine claiming to treat conditions like rheumatism is strictly prohibited under the provisions of the Act, as these claims often have no scientific basis and can mislead the public.
The seizure of this product is part of a broader initiative by the DCA to monitor and control the sale of medicines being promoted with exaggerated or false health benefits. Authorities have stated that further investigations will be carried out to identify all parties involved in the distribution of ‘ORTHO-AID OIL’ and any other products making similar misleading claims.
Consumers are urged to be cautious and avoid products that make unproven health claims. The DCA has emphasized the importance of ensuring that health-related advertisements are accurate, to safeguard public health and prevent exploitation.
