NEWS CHARIOT:-Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka made a significant announcement on Sunday, stating that the state government would rename the prestigious Nandi Awards in honor of renowned folk singer Gaddar. The declaration was made during the Bhakta Ramadasu Jayanti celebrations at LB Stadium in Hyderabad. He criticized the previous administration for neglecting the arts, noting that Nandi Awards had not been given to artists for over a decade. Vikramarka assured that the new government would actively support the arts and revive long-overdue recognitions.

The newly renamed “Gaddar Awards” will be presented starting from the upcoming Ugadi festival. Additionally, the government plans to organize drama competitions and honor artists in the field of theater. Vikramarka reaffirmed the state’s commitment to promoting cinema and other art forms, ensuring talented artists receive the recognition they deserve.

During the event, Professor Alekhya Punjala, President of the Sangeet Natak Academy, highlighted the government’s vision for holistic development. She stated that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy aims to foster spiritual growth alongside Telangana’s rapid progress. Following the Chief Minister’s guidance, the 392nd anniversary of Bhakta Ramadasu was celebrated on a grand scale, showcasing the state’s deep cultural roots.

The celebrations saw the participation of over 26 musical groups from different regions, featuring more than 600 artists. Their performances reflected Telangana’s vibrant artistic heritage and the government’s renewed focus on cultural promotion.

By renaming the Nandi Awards as “Gaddar Awards,” the state honors the legacy of Gaddar, a folk singer and activist whose music resonated deeply with the masses. The decision underscores the government’s intent to support and uplift the artistic community.
