Discovery of Smallest Human-Shaped Sculpture Fragment in Rapaka

NEWS CHARIOT:-In a significant archaeological breakthrough, Reddy Ratnakar Reddy, known as the “Discovery Man,” along with his research team, has uncovered the smallest known human-shaped sculpture fragment in Rapaka, a village located in the Dharmasagar Mandal of Hanamkonda district, Telangana. This rare find is believed to date back to the early stone age, approximately 6,000 years ago.

The discovery was made on Rapaka Hill, a site with a long history of human habitation. The hill has been identified as a residential area for early humans. Excavations revealed dolmen graves and stone age-era grooves on the surface. However, it was at the base of the hill where Reddy’s team found the human-shaped sculpture buried beneath the soil, partially concealed from view.

Upon closer inspection, the sculpture was found to have delicate grooves etched on three sides, separating the head and torso, thus forming a distinct human shape. This early form of art, although small, reflects the beauty and spiritual beliefs of ancient humans, symbolizing concepts such as reincarnation. It is speculated that early humans may have used the sculpture in religious rituals or worship during the early stone age period.

Measuring just 28 centimeters in height and weighing 9.235 grams, the sculpture is the smallest human-shaped figure discovered in Telangana to date. The circumference of the sculpture is 69 centimeters, with a horizontal perimeter of 47 centimeters. Despite its small size, the find is of immense archaeological value, offering a glimpse into the artistic and cultural practices of early humans.

The discovery follows Reddy’s previous work in the region, including the identification of the tallest human-shaped sculpture in India, found in Vadlakonda, Janagaon district. As modern agriculture expands, historical artifacts in the area are at risk of being lost. Experts suggest that establishing rural museums in each village could provide protection for such priceless cultural heritage.
