Dream Bridge Over Godavari River Set to Connect Peddapalli and Mancherial

NEWS CHARIOT (Peddapalli, Dec.22) : The long-lasting dream of the people of Peddapalli and Mancherial districts is going to be fulfilled by the Congress government with the construction of bridge over the Godavari River with the initiative taken by the IT Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu here in Manthani of Peddapalli district.

The people expressed happiness and thanks to the Chief Minister A.Revanth Reddy for sanctioning Rs.125 crores funds for the construction of the bridge between Manthani and Chennur at Shivaram during his recent visit to Peddapalli district. The CM also laid a foundation stone for the construction of the bridge through virtual mode.

The people earlier used to face a lot of problems to reach Chennur from Manthani. Some are still preferring boats to cross the Godavari River to reach Chennur from Manthani. During summer with a decrease of water level, the people by laying mud roads used to cross the river through their vehicles.

But after the Construction of Kaleshwaram project in 2020, with heavy water level increasing at Shivaram area in the Godavari River, the people are reaching Chennur through Godavarikhani by covering 70 km distance from Manthani.

With the construction of a bridge at Shivvaram on the Godavari River, the distance between Manthani and Chennur will be reduced to 35 km and the people can reach Chennur and then to Mancherial district for carrying out various types of business within one hour.

The state secretary of the Kishan Khet Mazdoor Congress Shashi Bhushan Kache speaking to Deccan Chronicle said that the construction of a bridge over the Godavari River has been a long-standing demand from the local community of both Chennur and Manthani mandals as the people of both the mandals have social relations and are facing a lot of difficulties to move to and fro for various purposes.

With the construction of the bridge over the river will improve transportation facilities for the residents of Peddapalli and Jayashankar Bhupalpally districts and will provide a convenient route to travel to neighbouring states of Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh via Chennur of Mancherial districts. This development is expected to ease the movement of people and goods, boosting regional trade and offering better access to the neighbouring states, he added.

The Deputy Executive Engineer of the Roads and Buildings department Jafar said that they are making efforts to get permission from the officials of the forest department as the Shivaram area is presently considered the protected zone for the Crocodiles and is present under the forest department.

The process of allotment of tenders was already completed and as soon as permission was obtained from the forest department, they will start the construction works of the bridge and will complete it at the earliest, he added.
