ED Launches Investigation into Bhoodan Land Scam in Telangana
NEWS CHARIOT:-The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has stepped into the high-profile Bhoodan land scam in Telangana, launching a series of searches that have sent shockwaves across the administrative corridors of the state. The agency began its probe on Sunday morning, targeting individuals involved in the alleged illegal sale and layout development of Bhoodan lands in Nagaram, Maheshwaram mandal.
Search operations were conducted at the residences of Munawar Khan, Qadir Unnisa, Sarafana, and Sukhur, who are suspected of having direct involvement in the scam. The ED’s action comes shortly after the Telangana High Court expressed serious concern over irregularities in the handling of Bhoodan lands—originally meant for landless individuals under the Bhoodan Movement initiated by Acharya Vinoba Bhave.
The High Court has taken a stern view of the alleged involvement of former All India Services (AIS) officers, reportedly accused of forging documents with the help of revenue department officials. These falsified documents were allegedly used to illegally transfer land ownership to family members and associates.
In response to a petition demanding an inquiry into the role of senior officials, the High Court issued notices to both central and state governments, as well as to the ED and CBI, instructing them to probe the matter thoroughly. Following this directive, the ED is now preparing to issue formal notices and launch a deeper investigation into the involvement of the accused officials.
This development marks a critical turning point in the case, raising concerns about systemic corruption and misuse of land meant for the underprivileged.
