Schools across various states are gearing up for a mix of holidays, both public and religious. Here are the key holidays and breaks to look forward to:
School Breaks and Public Holidays:
- Many schools have resumed normal operations after an extended winter break due to the cold weather. However, with February around the corner, multiple holidays are on the horizon, including national and regional festivals.
1st February: Saraswati Puja / Vasant Panchami On February 2nd, schools will be closed for Saraswati Puja (also known as Vasant Panchami), a day dedicated to the worship of Goddess Saraswati, the deity of knowledge, music, and arts. This marks the start of the month and will be celebrated in many parts of the country.
12th to 15th Febrauray : Mini-Medaram : The jatara will begin on Wednesday on February 12 and will continue on Thursday, Friday and will end on Saturday, February 15 along with offering special prayers with turmeric and vermillion to the presiding deities, a ritual called Mande Malige will be followed at Medaram temple by the tribal priests,
14th February: Shab-e-Barat February 14th marks Shab-e-Barat, an important day for Muslims to seek blessings. In some regions, this day is observed as a public holiday, though it remains optional for schools.
19th February: Shivaji Jayanti On February 19th, the nation will celebrate Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti, the birthday of the revered Maratha king, Chhatrapati Shivaji. This year marks the 395th anniversary of his birth. Schools in Maharashtra and other states will remain closed for the occasion.
24th February: Guru Ravidas Jayanti Guru Ravidas Jayanti will be celebrated on February 24th, coinciding with the full moon day of Magha month. Guru Ravidas, born in Varanasi in 1398, is a spiritual figure honored in Uttar Pradesh and several other states. Schools in those regions will have a holiday on this day.
26th February: Maha Shivaratri Lastly, Maha Shivaratri on February 26th will be a major Hindu festival dedicated to Lord Shiva. Observed on the 14th night of the Krishna Paksha in the month of Phalguna, this day will see schools and colleges across the country closed for celebrations.
