Gangaram Pedda Cheruvu Encroachments: Hydra Commissioner Ranganath Expresses Anger

NEWS CHARIOT:-On Thursday morning, Hydra Commissioner Ranganath, accompanied by GHMC, Irrigation, and Revenue officials, along with Hydra staff, conducted a field visit to Gangaram Pedda Cheruvu in Chandanagar. The purpose of the visit was to inspect the ongoing encroachments around the lake and assess the extent of the damage caused by illegal activities.

During the inspection, officials identified several areas where unauthorized land occupation was taking place. Commissioner Ranganath specifically inquired about the extent of soil dumping in the lake and questioned the officials about who was responsible for these actions. He expressed concern over the negligence of the authorities in curbing such activities and demanded accountability from them.

Ranganath was visibly furious over the lack of action against encroachments and criticized the concerned officials for their inaction. He questioned why no preventive measures were taken even though illegal activities had been ongoing for a significant period. The Commissioner emphasized that allowing such encroachments would severely impact the lake’s ecosystem and lead to further environmental degradation.

The inspection was prompted by allegations made by Serilingampally MLA and PAC Chairman Arekapudi Gandhi, who claimed that Gangaram Pedda Cheruvu was being encroached upon. In response, Commissioner Ranganath stated that the Hydra team had already filed complaints at the Chandanagar Police Station over the past three months regarding soil dumping in the lake. Legal action had been initiated against multiple individuals involved in these activities.

Ranganath warned that encroachments typically begin with the illegal dumping of soil, followed by unauthorized construction. He assured that strict action would be taken against those responsible and that authorities would not tolerate any further attempts to occupy the lake’s land.

The inspection was attended by Chandanagar Corporator Manjula Raghunath Reddy and officials from various departments, all of whom were directed to take immediate action to protect the lake from further encroachments.
