Golden Lockets Return: Travancore Devasthanam Board Announces Festive Gift for Ayyappa Devotees

NEWS CHARIOT:-In a heartening announcement for Ayyappa devotees, the Travancore Devaswom Board has reintroduced the sale of the much-revered golden lockets, marking the occasion of Chithirai Vishu. After a gap of over a decade, the distribution of these sacred lockets — previously worshipped in the sanctum sanctorum of the Sabarimala temple — has resumed with great enthusiasm.
The official launch of the initiative was carried out by Kerala’s Devaswom Minister V.N. Vasavan, who, along with temple officials, presented the first golden locket to a devotee from Andhra Pradesh. The devotee had booked the locket online through the official Sabarimala website.
Originally introduced in 1980, these gold-plated lockets were a popular devotional item among Ayyappa followers until 2011–12, when the Board discontinued their sale. Priced at just ₹500 during their earlier run, the lockets bore images of Lord Ayyappa on one side and Lord Ganesha on the other.
Now making a comeback, the lockets are being offered in three sizes: 2 grams, 4 grams, and 8 grams. The Travancore Devaswom Board has fixed the prices at ₹19,300, ₹38,600, and ₹77,200 respectively. Each locket has been worshipped at the Sabarimala temple before being distributed to devotees.
Devotees can purchase the lockets in two ways — by visiting the official website www.sabarimalaonline.org or by making a direct payment at the Travancore Devaswom Board’s administrative office located in the Sabarimala region.
The Board has partnered with reputed jewellery brands for the production of these lockets. GRT Jewellers from Tamil Nadu and Kalyan Jewellers from Kerala have been entrusted with the responsibility of crafting the sacred ornaments.
With this revival, the Board aims to reconnect devotees with a cherished tradition while offering a valuable keepsake blessed by the divinity of Lord Ayyappa himself.
