Grand Preparations Underway for Bhadrachalam Sri Rama Navami Kalyanam: Special Talambraalu Hold Devotional Significance

NEWS CHARIOT:-As the auspicious Sri Rama Navami approaches, elaborate preparations are in full swing for the celestial wedding of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita at the historic Sri Sitaramachandra Swamy Temple in Bhadrachalam. Among the key rituals, the Talambraalu—sacred rice grains showered during the Kalyanam—hold immense spiritual importance, drawing thousands of devotees each year.
This year, over 500 quintals of specially prepared Talambraalu are being readied, a process that begins months in advance with religious fervor. These grains are not just rice—they are believed to carry divine blessings. Grown traditionally in the East Godavari district under the supervision of the Sri Krishna Chaitanya Sangham, they are sown, harvested, and processed entirely with devotional practices.
The seeds are first placed at the feet of the main idols in Bhadrachalam and prayed over. Later, dressed as Hanuman and other vanaras, volunteers plow and sow the fields. Once the rice is harvested, it is de-husked manually—using a traditional “goti” method—by devotees from nearby villages, in a spiritual ceremony called “Vadlu Valupu – Sri Ramuni Pilupu” (Grain Offering – Lord Rama’s Call).
The prepared rice is then offered in a special ritual at Rajahmundry’s Godavari Pushkar Ghat, before being ceremoniously transported to Bhadrachalam with symbolic calls using parrots (Rama Chilukalu). Once brought to the temple, the Talambralu are used in the Kalyanam, where they are believed to bestow health, happiness, and prosperity upon those who receive them.
The government also continues a centuries-old tradition started by the Nizam ruler Tanisha, by officially offering pearl Talambraalu and silk clothes to the deities on behalf of the state.
As anticipation builds for the April 6 Kalyanam, devotees from across the world await the sacred moment when the divine couple is united, and the blessed Talambraalu are showered—symbolizing joy, love, and divine grace.
