Grand Ugadi Mahotsavam Begins at Srisailam: Lakhs of Devotees Gather

NEWS CHARIOT:-The sacred town of Srisailam, home to one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and one of the eighteen Shakti Pietas, is witnessing a grand celebration of Ugadi Mahotsavam. The five-day festival commenced on Thursday and will continue until March 31, drawing thousands of devotees from across the country.

The festival began with Swamy’s Yagashala entry, followed by special rituals, including Shiva Sankalpam, Ganapati Puja, Kankana Puja, and Chandishwara Puja. Over the next few days, several key events are lined up, including Prabhotsavam and Veerachary performances on March 29, Panchanga Sravanam (almanac reading) and Rathotsavam (chariot festival) on March 30, and a grand Kalyanotsavam (celestial wedding) for Mallikarjuna Swamy and Brahmaramba Devi on March 28 night at 8 PM.

With the arrival of Ugadi, the Srisailam temple town is witnessing an overwhelming number of devotees, particularly from Karnataka. Lakhs of Kannada pilgrims have arrived on foot to present sarees to Goddess Bhramaramba, a long-standing tradition. The temple streets are packed with devotees, and massive queues are forming for darshan.

In response to the heavy rush, temple authorities have suspended Arjita Sevas and Sparsha Darshan inside the sanctum, allowing only Alankara Darshan for faster movement. Drinking water and light refreshments are being distributed to those waiting in queues, while additional laddu counters have been set up to ensure a smooth supply. Medical camps have also been established at various points to assist devotees.

Temple Executive Officer M. Srinivasa Rao has directed officials to work in coordination for the seamless execution of the festival. The grand Ugadi Mahotsavam at Srisailam promises to be a spiritually enriching experience for all devotees.
