The heartbreaking story came to light after local residents noticed a foul smell emanating from a house in Buddha Nagar and immediately alerted the police.

According to reports, Lalitha, a 45-year-old woman, passed away unexpectedly, likely due to a heart attack. Her two daughters, Ravali (25) and Ashwitha (23), were reportedly in a state of shock and mental distress after their mother’s sudden death. Without knowing what to do and unable to afford the cost of her last rites, they kept their mother’s body in one room and stayed in another, not informing anyone for four days.

Upon investigation, police confirmed that Lalitha had been dead for approximately four days and had died due to a heart attack. However, the mental state of her daughters raised further concern. The family had been struggling with finances after Lalitha’s husband abandoned them during the pandemic, and Lalitha’s health had been deteriorating. Due to lack of funds for treatment, she had been bedridden for some time.

It was on January 23, approximately nine days ago, that Lalitha passed away, but her daughters, unable to afford the cost of funeral arrangements, kept the death a secret. It was only when locals noticed the unpleasant odor and reported it to the police that the truth came to light. When questioned, the daughters revealed their mother had died on January 23 and that they had been unable to afford funeral expenses, which is why they had not informed anyone.

The discovery of the two daughters living with their mother’s body for almost a week has shocked the local community, drawing attention to the severe mental and emotional toll of financial hardship on families. The police are now investigating the cause of death further to ensure no foul play was involved.
