Illegal Mobile Ultrasound Machine Seized at Srilatha Maternity Nursing Home
NEWS CHARIOT:-In a significant crackdown on unauthorized medical practices, a special drive team led by District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) Dr. Venkataramana seized an illegally operated mobile ultrasound machine at Srilatha Maternity Nursing Home. Acting on the orders of the Telangana Health and Family Welfare Commissioner and the Karimnagar District Collector, officials from the revenue and police departments conducted a surprise inspection and found the unregistered ultrasound machine in operation. A notice was issued, and the machine was immediately seized for violating medical regulations.
The inspection team also reviewed whether the hospital was following the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act, 1994, which prohibits sex determination before birth. Officials checked whether patient records, including Form F details, were properly maintained and updated online daily. They also verified the hospital’s registration certificates, doctors’ qualifications, outpatient registers, and scanning documentation.
Authorities reminded the public that gender determination tests are a criminal offense, punishable by up to three years in prison and a fine of ₹10,000. The team inspected whether hospitals displayed mandatory warning boards and maintained proper documentation to prevent illegal sex determination. Officials confirmed that routine inspections will continue to enforce strict compliance with medical laws.
The enforcement drive was led by Dr. Venkataramana (DMHO), Revenue Inspector Ramulu, ASI Vijayamani, Dr. Umashree (P.O., DTT), Dr. Sana Javeria (PCPNDT Program Officer), Sakhi Consultant D. Lakshmi, and other officials. Authorities have warned all ultrasound and fertility centers to follow legal procedures, failing which strict action will be taken against violators.
