In Sukma-Bijapur Border Maoists’ Bomb-Making Bunker Unearthed

NEWS CHARIOT : In a significant development along the Sukma-Bijapur district border, security forces have uncovered a large bunker in the dense forests of Pujari Kanker, following an encounter with Maoists. During the subsequent search operation conducted by the Sukma DRG police forces, a substantial stockpile of explosives and weapons was seized from the bunker located between the Tumrel and Talperu rivers.

What stunned the security forces further was the discovery of modern technological equipment used in bomb-making. The bunker contained several domestic rocket launchers, machines used for bomb manufacturing, gunpowder materials, and silver wire used for electrical purposes. The authorities were taken aback when they identified that the Maoists had been utilizing advanced technology to produce bombs, including the use of glass bottles for bomb-making.

The officials were left in awe at the sophisticated methods and technological knowledge being employed by the Maoists to create bombs, especially considering the availability of resources in remote, jungle areas. It was determined that the Maoists had been targeting security forces using a variety of homemade bombs, highlighting their growing technological capabilities.

This discovery comes amid intensified security operations in Chhattisgarh. The state’s anti-Naxal operation, KAGAR (2026), has been ramped up, and the security forces are preparing for a large-scale operation in the Abujhmad forest to eliminate Maoist strongholds. Bastar IG Sundar Raj also revealed plans for a major offensive against the Maoists operating in the Dandakaranya region, which has been a significant Maoist stronghold, and the area continues to be home to various Maoist committees, including the Polit Bureau, Central Committee, and Special Zonal Committees.

The presence of Telangana Maoist committees in the Karrigutta region further complicates the situation. In a related development, approximately 3,500 security personnel have been deployed across the Sukma-Bijapur border forest region, actively advancing toward Maoist hideouts. This large-scale operation is expected to lead to more encounters in the coming days, with authorities anticipating further clashes.

The ongoing operations in the Sukma-Bijapur region are a part of a broader strategy to dismantle the Maoist network in Chhattisgarh, and the security forces are determined to root out the insurgents with their sophisticated and coordinated approach.
