Italian Military Badges Discovered in Telangana Temple — Possible Link to World War II

NEWS CHARIOT:-In a surprising historical discovery, two Italian military badges believed to date back to the World War II era were found inside the Bejjamahadevi temple in Bejjora village, Bhingal Mandal, Nizamabad district. The find was made by noted historian and member of the Kotta Telangana Charitra Brundam, Kankanala Rajeshwar, during a recent visit to the temple.

The visit was initiated by temple trustee Vemuganti (Jangam) Rajeshwar, who invited the historian to explore the temple’s heritage. While examining the premises, Rajeshwar noticed two metallic badges placed in a corner of the temple. Realizing their possible historical value, he photographed the items and forwarded them to Sriramoju Haragopal, state convener of the Kotta Telangana Charitra Brundam.

After detailed examination, Haragopal identified the badges as belonging to officers of the Italian Army. One badge features an Italian Colonial Helmet, specifically used by the Artillery Regiment, while the other represents a Cavalry Cap Badge used by Italian forces. Both items are believed to be from the period of the Second World War.

Speaking to the media, Kankanala Rajeshwar explained that such badges were typically worn by Italian soldiers during wartime. However, the exact route through which these military relics ended up in a rural Telangana temple remains unclear. “It is a mystery how these badges came to be here, but the fact that they were preserved in the temple has given us a rare opportunity to trace a link to global military history,” he said.

The discovery has sparked interest among local residents and historians alike. Many are now urging the Telangana Heritage Department to collect and preserve these items in a museum to ensure their protection and display for public awareness and historical research.

The find adds a curious chapter to Telangana’s local history and raises questions about the movement of war memorabilia across continents, especially during and after World War II.
