Italy Offers Financial Incentives for People to Resettle Abandoned Mountain Villages

NEWS CHARIOT : — Italy is offering a unique opportunity to encourage people to move to its abandoned mountain villages, particularly in the Trentino Province. The government is providing financial incentives for individuals to restore and live in dilapidated homes in these remote villages. Under the offer, residents will receive up to €100,000 (approximately Rs.93 lakh) in grants for property restoration and purchase.

The financial breakdown includes €80,000 (around Rs.74.2 lakh) for home renovations and €20,000 (approximately Rs.18.5 lakh) to help with the purchase of the property. However, the offer comes with a critical condition: the person must commit to living in the village for at least 10 years. If they leave before this time, they will be required to repay the grant.

This initiative is open not only to Italian citizens but also to foreigners living abroad. The project aims to rejuvenate 33 mountain villages in the Trentino area, where homes have fallen into disrepair and the population has significantly dwindled. By attracting new residents, the government hopes to breathe new life into these beautiful but abandoned communities, helping to preserve local culture and economy.
