Journalists Stage Hunger Strike Over Housing Delay in Warangal

NEWS CHARIOT:-A group of journalists has launched a hunger strike demanding the immediate allocation of long-promised double-bedroom houses in Desai Peta Lakshmi Township. The protest entered its second day on Tuesday, drawing growing attention to the plight of eligible press members who are yet to receive homes under a central government scheme.
The township, already constructed, has reportedly been neglected and left unoccupied. Frustrated by delays and inaction, members of the Working Journalists of India (WJI) have taken to the streets to push for accountability.
Leading the protest are WJI Joint Warangal District Convenor Puli Sharath Kumar, State Vice-President Taduru Karunakar, and Secretary Promod Kumar. The trio emphasized that their fight is for justice and dignity, urging authorities to expedite the allocation process.
“The houses were built for journalists with central government funds. There’s no justification for this delay,” said Sharath Kumar. “We will not back down until every eligible journalist receives what is rightfully theirs.”
Support for the journalists has poured in from various political and civil society leaders. BJP State Executive Member Errabelli Pradeep Rao and BRS state leader Dr. Hari Ramadevi visited the protest site to show solidarity. PDSU District Secretary Rachakonda Ranjith Kumar also lent his support, promising to back the movement until their demands are met.
In a spiritual gesture earlier in the day, several journalists visited Bhadrakali Temple to offer prayers and submit a petition to the deity, seeking divine intervention for the success of their cause.
As the hunger strike continues, pressure mounts on the concerned authorities to respond. The protesting journalists remain resolute, declaring that the protest will not end until the housing issue is resolved.
The protest has highlighted not only the unmet promises made to the media community but also the broader concerns over the state of public welfare schemes and government accountability.
