Justice Chandru Kumar Urges Peace Talks with Maoists

NEWS CHARIOT:-Justice Chandru Kumar, Chairman of the Peace Talks Committee, called for immediate peace talks with the Maoists to end the ongoing violence in central India. Speaking at a roundtable discussion organized by the Joint District Committee of Peace Talks at the Haritha Kakatiya Hotel in Hanamkonda, he condemned the bloodshed caused by the conflict between police forces and Naxalites.

Justice Kumar highlighted the devastating impact the conflict has had on innocent civilians, especially tribal communities, who are caught in the crossfire. He stressed that women, including pregnant women, are losing their lives while searching for food in the forests. Additionally, police officers are also being killed, with the entire region engulfed in violence.

Despite the Maoists announcing a ceasefire and their willingness to engage in peace talks, the central government has not responded to these efforts. Justice Kumar criticized the government for continuing its offensive instead of seizing the opportunity for dialogue. He questioned, “Why should there be bloodshed in India? Why should people—whether police, civilians, or Maoists—continue to die?”

Justice Kumar further noted that while the government has successfully negotiated with insurgent groups in other regions like Nagaland, Meghalaya, Assam, and Manipur, it has not initiated peace talks with the Maoists, despite their long-standing struggle for justice.

He urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to take immediate action to begin peace negotiations with the Maoists. Justice Kumar also accused the BJP of exacerbating the suffering of tribal communities in central India, leading to the loss of their livelihoods and rights.

The roundtable discussion included several prominent figures, including members of the Peace Talks Committee, legal experts, and representatives of civil society organizations. All participants called for an urgent and peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict.
