Kerala Family Narrowly Escapes Terrorist Attack in Pahalgam

NEWS CHARIOT:-A family from Kerala narrowly escaped a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday, thanks to a delay caused by a meal they ordered at a local restaurant. The family, which was vacationing in Kashmir, credits their survival to the excessive salt in the Mutton Rogan Josh dish they ordered, which caused them to leave later than planned.

Lavanya, a member of the family, had traveled to Kashmir with her husband, Alby George, their three children, Alby’s parents, and a relative. They had arrived in Srinagar two days prior to the incident and were planning to spend two days in Pahalgam. On the day of the attack, while traveling to Pahalgam, the family was only 2 kilometers away from the attack site when they noticed a group of horses rushing downhill in panic. Recognizing that something was wrong, Lavanya and her family began to suspect that an incident was unfolding nearby.

Initially, the family thought rocks were falling from the mountains, but they soon realized it was not the case. As they decided to move upwards, they encountered several vehicles coming downhill, signaling them to stop. Reports informed them that there was a confrontation between the CRPF and tourists, leading them to abandon their plans to visit Baisaran.

Lavanya described the moment when they saw a woman crying while walking with the CRPF. “We immediately realized something was wrong,” she said. The family soon learned through phone calls from friends and relatives that they had narrowly escaped a dangerous situation.

The family credited their survival to two key factors: the restaurant staff, who delayed their departure, and Lavanya’s husband, who insisted on stopping for a meal. As a result of the delay, the family missed being caught in the attack. Lavanya’s family is expected to return to Kerala on April 25, thankful for their fortunate escape.
