KumbhMelaIncident: Passenger Files Complaint Against Indian Railways Over Denied Boarding at Prayagraj

NEWS CHARIOT : A passenger’s attempt to attend the Mahakumbh Mela in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj was thwarted when he was unable to board his train due to a locked door, leading to a legal dispute with Indian Railways.
As the grand Mahakumbh Mela unfolds in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, devotees from across India and even abroad have shown immense interest in attending the religious gathering. Among them was Janak Kishore Jha from Muzaffarpur, Bihar, who, along with his family, had planned to travel to Prayagraj to witness the sacred event.
Jha had booked AC 3-tier train tickets for the “Swatantra Senani Express” scheduled to depart on January 26th ensuring that all arrangements were made for the trip. However, upon reaching the railway station, he was unable to board his train due to the train doors being locked from the inside. Despite efforts to get assistance from railway officials, Jha and his family could not board the train.
In light of this, Jha has filed a formal complaint against Indian Railways. He has demanded a full refund of his ticket fare along with interest, and if this is not done, he is seeking compensation of ₹50 lakh for the emotional and financial distress caused by missing the Kumbh Mela.
Jha’s frustration is understandable as the Kumbh Mela is a once-in-a-lifetime event, and his family’s inability to attend due to the railway issue has caused considerable disappointment.
Feeling distressed over missing the once-in-144-year event and facing financial losses, Jha has filed an official complaint with Indian Railways. He demanded a refund of his ticket amount along with interest, requesting the full reimbursement within 15 days. Additionally, Jha has warned of potential legal action and has demanded a compensation of ₹50 lakh for the emotional and financial loss his family has suffered.
The passenger expressed his deep disappointment at not being able to participate in the historic event and stressed the importance of timely action from railway authorities.
