Large Maoist Tunnel Uncovered in Sukma District of Chhattisgarh

NEWS CHARIOT : In a significant development, a large Maoist tunnel was discovered by DRG (District Reserve Guard) personnel in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh state, during a combing operation along the Sukma-Bijapur border. The tunnel, which was found between the Tumrel and Talperu rivers, is believed to have been used by the Maoists for the production of bombs and improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
During the operation, the security forces seized materials used for bomb manufacturing, including iron wires and bottles. The tunnel stretches for over a kilometer and was used to hide large quantities of explosive-making materials.
The discovery comes amid intensified combing and counter-insurgency operations, where the Maoists are reportedly attempting to escape by hiding in bunkers. The security forces are now focused on locating and neutralizing these bunkers, which are suspected to be used by key Maoist leaders. The tunnels were found to be equipped with extensive wiring for explosives.
Following the recent heavy encounter that led to the death of several Maoists, the discovery of the tunnel has heightened security concerns. The troops have increased their efforts to find additional bunkers, and high-ranking officials have advised the forces to remain vigilant during the ongoing combing operations.
This latest finding highlights the ongoing conflict in the region and the Maoists’ efforts to bolster their operations, even as they face mounting losses. The security forces remain committed to dismantling the network of tunnels and bunkers used by the insurgents.
