Lightning Strikes Sri Lanka Colony as Telangana Faces Unseasonal Rains

NEWS CHARIOT:-In a startling turn of events, lightning struck an empty area in Sri Lanka Colony of Jannaram mandal, Mancherial district, amid heavy unseasonal rains. The lightning bolt illuminated the area for nearly 14 minutes, causing concern among residents. Fortunately, no injuries or damage were reported in this incident, and the colony residents breathed a sigh of relief.

However, the broader picture in Telangana remains grim. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for the state, forecasting unseasonal thundershowers, lightning, and moderate to heavy rainfall over the next four days. The sudden weather change is attributed to a trough and surface circulation in the region.

Tragically, lightning strikes across the state have claimed four lives. In Nalgonda district, 46-year-old female farmer Bhikshamamma was struck by lightning in Appajipet. In Mahabubabad district, 55-year-old shepherd Cheralu from Otai succumbed to a strike while herding livestock. In Gudenga, Praveen Kumar, aged 27, was also killed. Meanwhile, in Wanaparthy district, 18-year-old youth Korava Nagaraju from Miyapur lost his life due to lightning.

Authorities are urging citizens to remain indoors during thunderstorms, avoid sheltering under trees, and stay away from open fields. People are advised to follow official updates and precautionary guidelines issued by the IMD and local authorities to minimize risk during this unpredictable weather period.

The current conditions underscore the need for better awareness and early-warning systems to reduce casualties and damage during such natural calamities.
