Massive Asteroid Heading Toward Earth -NASA assesses the risk

NEWSCHARIOT:-A massive asteroid, measuring 300 feet in diameter, is heading toward Earth at high speed. However, scientists have stated that the chances of it actually colliding with Earth are very low. The asteroid has been named 2024 YR4 by scientists and was discovered just a few weeks ago.
According to NASA, there is a 2.3% chance that this asteroid could collide with Earth. If it does, the impact is expected to occur on December 22, 2032. NASA is closely monitoring its orbit to assess potential risks.
NASA is already working on diverting the asteroid’s path to prevent a collision with Earth. The James Webb Space Telescope is scheduled to observe the asteroid in March 2025 to accurately estimate its size and trajectory.
NASA has stated that after a detailed analysis of the asteroid’s orbit, scientists will gain a clearer understanding of its potential impact. The asteroid has also been added to the NASA Center for Near-Earth Object Studies’ hazard list.
Experts believe that there is a high possibility of successfully diverting the asteroid away from Earth. However, if it does collide, it could cause massive destruction. As of now, scientists have not determined the exact location where the asteroid might hit.
NASA’s Ongoing Monitoring
NASA scientists are working proactively to alter the asteroid’s path while it is still far away. Their efforts aim to ensure that the asteroid does not pose a threat to Earth in the future.
