Massive Fire Erupts at Yadadri Power Plant in Nalgonda District

NEWS CHARIOT:-A major fire broke out in the early hours of Monday at the Yadadri Thermal Power Plant located in Damaracherla, Nalgonda district. The incident occurred in the first unit of the plant, causing a temporary shutdown of power generation and raising serious safety concerns.
According to preliminary reports, the fire started around 1:00 AM when oil leaked from a boiler in Unit 1. At the same time, welding work was being carried out nearby. The leaked oil caught fire due to the sparks from welding, and the flames rapidly spread throughout the unit. Thick smoke and massive flames were seen engulfing the structure, prompting an immediate emergency response.
Firefighters rushed to the spot after being alerted and were able to bring the blaze under control before it could cause further damage. Thanks to their timely intervention, a major disaster was averted. However, the accident has led to the halt of 600 megawatts of power production, as the unit was in the final stages of preparation for a trial run.
Officials are currently assessing the damage, and an investigation has been initiated to determine the exact cause and assess any lapses in safety measures.
This is not the first safety-related incident at the Yadadri Power Plant. A similar mishap occurred on February 14 this year. During regular operations of the second unit, a blockage in the Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP) of the ash plant caused the unit to trip, shutting down the boiler. While workers were attempting to clear the jammed ash, a sudden release of hot residue fell on them, resulting in serious injuries to six workers.
The repeated incidents have raised questions about the plant’s safety protocols and operational procedures. Authorities have been urged to conduct a comprehensive safety audit to prevent such accidents in the future.Further updates are awaited as officials continue their probe into the incident.
