Negligence at Jagityal Government Hospital Sparks Outrage
NEWS CHARIOT (Jagtyala, Dec.30) : A heart-wrenching incident at the Jagityal Government Hospital in Telangana has highlighted the severe negligence and lack of compassion among hospital staff. The case involves an elderly couple, Rajanarsu, a resident of Raghavapatnam in Gollapalli Mandal, was admitted to the hospital a week ago due to health complications. His wife Mallavva, despite having an injury to her hand, accompanied him as an attendant, tirelessly caring for her ailing husband. Over the past two days, Mallavva’s own health began to deteriorate due to high blood pressure. She eventually collapsed on the bed allocated to her husband.
Rather than providing her with immediate medical assistance, the hospital staff placed Mallavva in a wheelchair and unceremoniously left her by the roadside outside the hospital premises. Witnessing this, Rajanarsu, in an act of solidarity and despair, left his treatment midway and joined his wife outside, lying beside her on the road.
The distressing sight of the elderly couple abandoned by the hospital prompted concerned locals to inform the Jagityal Town Police. Acting swiftly, the police rushed to the scene and readmitted the couple to the hospital.
Repeated Negligence
This incident is not isolated. In the past, an elderly man was reportedly left at a bus station by hospital staff, forcing locals to intervene. Another shocking case involved a pregnant woman, where surgical cloth was left inside her body post-delivery, causing a major outcry.
Despite these alarming incidents, the hospital administration seems to have made little progress in rectifying its approach. Although the district collector had recently issued orders to surrender the hospital superintendent, the behavior of the hospital staff has remained largely unchanged.
Public Outrage
The treatment of Mallavva and Rajanarsu has drawn widespread condemnation. Locals and activists have expressed anger over the inhumane handling of vulnerable patients. Many are demanding strict disciplinary actions against the erring staff and urgent reforms in the hospital’s management to prevent such incidents in the future.
