Pakistan Relieves Over 100 Cops from Duty for Champions Trophy 2025

NEWS CHARIOT : Ahead of the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan, the government has made significant security arrangements to ensure the safety of players and officials. Due to security reasons, Pakistan has not hosted international cricket teams for several years. India, in particular, has yet to visit Pakistan to play cricket. However, in the last two years, teams like Australia, New Zealand, and England have shown courage and toured Pakistan for various series, leading the International Cricket Council (ICC) to grant Pakistan the opportunity to host the prestigious Champions Trophy.

Despite the security concerns, the ICC has made it clear that heavy security measures must be in place. The Pakistan government has deployed a large number of police forces at airports, stadiums, hotels where players are staying, and during the transit of players between their accommodations and stadiums. However, in an unexpected move, over 100 police officers were recently removed from their duties in connection with the Champions Trophy.

These officers, who had previously been stationed to provide security to players at stadiums and other venues, were dismissed from their jobs, leaving them and their families stranded. The reason behind this sudden action is that the Champions Trophy security duties led to an overwhelming work burden on the officers. With shifts lasting up to 15 to 20 hours without proper scheduling, many officers faced extreme physical and mental exhaustion. As a result, more than 100 officers reportedly refused to continue their duties related to the Champions Trophy, leading to their removal by the Pakistani government.

This decision has sparked widespread criticism. While it is necessary to ensure robust security for an international tournament, critics argue that it is unjust to overburden officers without proper support. There have been reports that some officers were not provided with basic necessities such as food and water during their shifts. Netizens and fellow officers have expressed outrage, stating that it is unfair to dismiss these officers entirely for refusing to perform such arduous and unorganized duties.

There are calls for the Pakistan Cricket Board to hire private security personnel to handle such tasks instead of exploiting the police force in this manner. The controversy continues to grow as Pakistan prepares for one of the biggest cricket tournaments in the world.
