Reliance’s Dhirubhai Ambani Lakhibagh Amrayi: Asia’s Largest Mango Orchard Thrives

NEWS CHARIOT:-Reliance Industries’ Dhirubhai Ambani Lakhibagh Amrayi, located in Jamnagar, Gujarat, has earned recognition as the largest mango orchard in Asia, spanning 600 acres. Known for its impressive variety of 200 types of mangoes, the orchard has transformed barren land into a thriving agricultural success.

The orchard’s story dates back to 1997 when Reliance faced a pollution control challenge at its oil refinery in Jamnagar. The company was required to take measures to meet the pollution standards. Instead of leaving the land unused, Reliance decided to convert it into a mango orchard, a move that not only solved the environmental issue but also resulted in a profitable venture. The orchard now yields over 600 tons of mangoes every year, generating more than 100 crore rupees in revenue.

Spanning 600 acres, the orchard is home to over 140,000 mango trees. It grows domestic varieties such as Kesar, Alphonso, Rattan, and Sindhu, alongside international varieties like Tommy Atkins, Kent, and Maya. These mangoes are exported both locally and internationally, contributing significantly to the company’s revenue. The orchard has also become a key research hub for agricultural innovations.

What sets this orchard apart is its adoption of advanced farming techniques. Reliance employs methods like desalination, drip irrigation, fertigation, and water harvesting. Desalination ensures that only purified water is used for irrigation, while drip irrigation minimizes water wastage. Fertigation, which combines fertilizers with irrigation, ensures nutrients are delivered directly to the plants. These modern practices contribute to the orchard’s high yield and exceptional fruit quality.

Reliance also supports local farmers by distributing around 100,000 saplings annually and providing training in modern farming techniques. This initiative helps boost the income of surrounding communities while promoting sustainability in the region.

The Dhirubhai Ambani Lakhibagh Amrayi not only serves as an agricultural marvel but also attracts tourists from around the world, overseen personally by Nita Ambani.
