NEWS CHARIOT (Peddapalli, Oct.26) : The officials of the post office department identified around Rs.50 lakhs of transactions fraud occurred by creating fake passbooks in the name of customers by some of its employees here at Begumpet sub-branch post office in Ramgiri mandal of Peddapalli district.
One of the customers who was identified as Gundu Srinivas who opened the account in 2015 in the name of his daughter Gundu Sri Varsha at the post office under Sukanya Samrudhi Yojana scheme.
Srinivas deposited around Rs.13,83, 589 in the post office account which was in his daughter’s name. On Friday, he went to the post office and when checked the balance amount, he was shocked to see that Rs.2 lakhs were deducted from the account.
He then lodged a complaint to Sub-postmaster Shiva Kumar. When Shiva Kumar called some of the customers and checked their pass books, he found many of them possessing fake pass books. Suspecting that some of the post office employees are involved in the fraud, he took the issue to the notice of the higher officials.
The Superintendent of Warangal division who was also handed over additional charge of the Peddapalli Head Post Office B.Ravi Kumar speaking to Deccan Chronicle said that the issue of fake passbooks in the Begumpet sub-branch post office had come to their notice and probed an inquiry.
It would take some time to find out how many customers were sanctioned with the fake passbooks and which employee is behind the scam and how much amount of money was diverted.
But the customers need not to be worried as the post office will take complete responsibility for their deposited amount. After recovering the money from the culprits who indulged in the scam the customers will be handed over the money they lost, he added.
