RTC Workers Threaten Statewide Strike from May 7 Over Unresolved Demands

NEWS CHARIOT:-Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) is once again facing the possibility of a major strike, as discontent grows among its employees over unresolved demands. Despite ongoing efforts by workers and unions to address key issues, they allege that the TSRTC management has been unresponsive and negligent.

The RTC Joint Action Committee (JAC), which represents workers and employees, has already issued three strike notices in the past. Now, amid continued inaction, the committee is reportedly preparing to launch a statewide strike starting May 7. The primary grievances include delayed salaries, lack of clarity on the corporation’s merger with the government, and failure to implement previously made promises.

Efforts to hold discussions through the Labor Commissioner also failed to yield results, as RTC management did not attend the scheduled meetings. This move has triggered serious dissatisfaction among workers, who accuse the administration of deliberately avoiding dialogue.

Adding to the frustration, employees claim that the management is using the recent MLC election code as an excuse to delay action on their demands. With the code for local body MLC elections now in effect, workers fear further postponement of crucial decisions affecting their welfare.

Despite the government having completed over a year in office, employees say there has been no progress on promises made during the formation of the government. Many staff members are yet to receive full salaries, and the pending merger of TSRTC with the state government remains unaddressed. There has also been no official response regarding long-standing pending bills.

In light of these issues, the RTC JAC is demanding immediate action on several fronts: full salary payments, government acquisition of RTC buses, job security assurances, and completion of the merger process.

The committee has warned that if the government fails to come forward for talks, essential public transport services across the state could be severely disrupted from May 7 onwards.
