Sita Samahit Sthal: A Sacred Place Near Allahabad and Varanasi

NEWS CHARIOT:-The sacred place where Sita completed her earthly journey is located approximately 4 km south of the second National Highway connecting Allahabad and Varanasi. It can be easily accessed by traveling 14 km from Jangiganj, which is on the second National Highway.
This place is known as Sita Samahit Sthal, and it is also referred to as Sita Mari. It is a peaceful and serene location near the banks of the Tamsa River, surrounded by tranquil surroundings. The area is home to a beautiful memorial structure, built in the 1990s, dedicated to Sita.
It is widely believed that when Sita completed her incarnation, she reunited with her mother, Bhumi Mata (Mother Earth). However, the exact location of this sacred place was unknown to many, until it was identified near the Tamsa River.
Before the memorial structure was built, local residents claim that the area had a “Kesha Vatika” (a place where Sita’s hair was kept), which resembled the Goddess’s hair. The local people also believed that animals never grazed the grass that grew in this area. The memorial was built without disturbing the sacred Sita Kesha Vatika.
Nearby, the Valmiki Ashram can also be found. This is where Janaki Devi (Sita) lived when she was exiled to the forests. Also nearby is the sacred place where Lava and Kusha (Sita’s sons) were born, known as Sita Vat Vriksha (Sita’s Banyan Tree).
The memorial was built under the direction of Swami Jitendranand Tirtha, who, while living in the Rishikesh Ashram, was guided by divine grace to visit this sacred place, 900 kilometers away. Walking the distance, he reached the location and worked with donors to establish this sacred memorial. His efforts were supported by Prakash Punji and other benefactors.
The Sita Samahit Sthal is easily accessible by bus. It is located 55 kilometers from Allahabad and 80 kilometers from Varanasi, making it a prominent pilgrimage site. For those traveling by train, they can reach the nearest railway stations in Allahabad or Varanasi, and then take a short trip to the memorial.Visiting Sita Samahit Sthal is a serene and enriching experience, easy to access from both Varanasi and Allahabad.
