Small Budget, Big Break: Maharaja Shatters Baahubali 2’s Box Office Record!

NEWS CHARITO (Hyderabad, Dec.20) : In recent years, the Indian film industry has witnessed an unprecedented surge in box office collections, with several films raking in massive amounts, breaking records year after year. A prime example of this trend is the recent release Pushpa 2, which has made an astonishing 1000 crore rupees in just six days, further emphasizing the growing power of cinema post-COVID. One of the contributing factors to this significant rise in collections is the increase in ticket prices, which has certainly played a role in amplifying the revenue of films across various languages.

When looking at the highest-grossing films in India, Dangal remains the leader, holding the top spot with its exceptional collections. Baahubali 2, occupies the second spot, continuing to reign supreme in terms of box office earnings for several years. These two films, despite being released years ago, have remained unchallenged in terms of their record-breaking collections. While many high-budget and high-profile films have come and gone, none have managed to surpass the colossal figures set by Dangal and Baahubali 2, making these films a benchmark for success in the Indian film industry.

However, an unexpected challenger has now emerged to break the long-standing record set by Baahubali 2. The film in question is Maharaja, a Tamil film starring Vijay Sethupathi. What makes this achievement even more remarkable is the fact that Maharaja was produced with a relatively small budget of just 20 crores, which is significantly lower than the massive budgets of films like Baahubali 2. Despite the modest budget, Maharaja has managed to achieve a box office success that has shattered the long-standing record set by Baahubali, proving that a smaller film, with the right storytelling and execution, can outperform even the biggest blockbusters.

Baahubali 2, directed by S. S. Rajamouli, had a remarkable run in the Chinese market, grossing 64 crore rupees. However, this record has now been broken by Maharaja, which has earned a staggering 100 crore rupees at the Chinese box office, marking a major achievement. What makes this even more significant is that Maharaja is also showing signs of surpassing Dangal‘s record, which has been the gold standard for Indian films in China.

This indicates that Maharaja is not only making waves in India but also gaining massive popularity internationally, particularly in China, where Indian films are increasingly finding a strong audience. The success of Maharaja in the Chinese market is proof of the growing appeal of Indian cinema globally, breaking barriers and records that were once thought unbreakable.
