Sparrow Trapped in Sealed Shop for Days Rescued After Villagers’ Legal Battle
NEWS CHARIOT:-In a remarkable display of compassion and unity, residents of Ullikkal village in Kerala rallied together to save a sparrow trapped in a court-sealed shop for several days. The incident not only moved the hearts of locals but also involved district authorities and the judiciary to ensure the life of the tiny bird was saved.
The ordeal began on April 7, when a sparrow accidentally flew into a textile shop that had been sealed for nearly six months by court orders, following a dispute between the shop’s partners. The bird got stuck between the shutter and a glass wall, unable to find an escape route. Passersby noticed the trapped sparrow frantically fluttering and attempting to break free by pecking at the glass.
Moved by the bird’s distress, villagers tried to rescue it. However, with no entry point into the shop, they began feeding it grains and water through a small gap to keep it alive. Determined to save the sparrow, they approached local authorities, including the Tehsildar, who informed them that only a court order could allow the shop to be opened.
The villagers escalated the matter to District Collector Arun K. Vijayan, who instructed officials to find a legal way to proceed. The case eventually reached Principal District and Sessions Judge K.T. Nisar Ahmed, who consulted the Kerala High Court for special permission.
On April 10, with the court’s approval, the judge, collector, and officials arrived at the shop and opened it. The exhausted sparrow was gently freed and released into the sky, where it flew to a nearby tree—much to the relief and joy of onlookers.
Judge Ahmed stated, “Laws are meant to protect all forms of life, not just humans.” The villagers echoed this sentiment, expressing deep happiness in witnessing the bird’s rescue.
This extraordinary incident stands as a powerful reminder that even the smallest lives matter—and that compassion, when combined with action, can overcome any obstacle.
