State Government Accuses Miscreants of Spreading AI-Generated Misinformation in Gachibowli Land Case

NEWS CHARIOT:-The Telangana state government has informed the High Court that certain malicious entities are using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to generate fake visuals and spread misinformation regarding the controversial 400-acre land parcel in Kanchana Gachibowli. The government alleged that these forces created fabricated videos depicting peacocks screaming and deer running in fear—aimed at misleading the public and provoking environmental outrage.
In a hearing on Monday, a bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Sujoy Paul and Justice Yarra Renuka reviewed multiple Public Interest Litigations (PILs) filed by the Vat Foundation, students, and scientists from the University of Hyderabad. The PILs seek to halt deforestation in the area, revoke Government Order (G.O.) 54—issued for transferring land to the Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC)—and demand that the area be preserved as a national park.
Senior advocate S. Niranjan Reddy, representing the Vat Foundation, highlighted that the Supreme Court had already taken suo motu cognizance of the issue and is scheduled to conduct another hearing on April 16. The apex court has directed the Central Empowered Committee to visit the disputed land and submit a report. It has also instructed the state’s Chief Secretary to file a detailed counter on environmental clearances and ecological impact.
In response, Telangana’s Advocate General Sudarshan Reddy requested the High Court to defer the PILs since the Supreme Court is actively hearing the matter and the state is yet to submit its counter affidavit.
Senior advocate Menaka Guruswamy, representing the Forest Department, echoed concerns about misinformation, stating that fake content had been used to create a false narrative to mislead citizens.
Considering the developments, the High Court allowed all concerned departments—including Revenue, Forest, and Police—to file counter affidavits and reports by April 24. The case has been adjourned to that date.
In a related move, activist KA Paul filed a fresh PIL alleging the land is part of a protected forest area and accused the government of planning to auction it at ₹75 crore per acre. The High Court agreed to club this with the existing cases for joint hearing.
